Mr. Eleftherios Gitsas of the Agricultural Cooperative Farms of Central Macedonia (Kivotos) organized the first workshop in the framework of the project: Strategies for the production of calves suitable for fattening in dairy farms, using STAR(T) BEEF assisted breeding technologies.
The conference took place on March 17, 2023, in the Banquet hall of the company “I Avli” (Address: Themistokleous and Athena Streets) at Krya Vrysi Pella at 10.30 am.
The purpose of the meeting was to inform about the goals of the project as well as the required actions to achieve the expected results. The conference was attended by members from organizations that participate in the primary sector of Animal Production but also in the supply chain of animal products and want to apply modern methods
assisted reproduction in their farms but also the production and utilization of beef from fattening cows exclusively of Greek Breeding with superior quality characteristics.
The coordinator and scientific manager of the operational team of STAR(T) BEEF and director of Research of the Veterinary Research Institute of ELGO Dimitra, Dr. Theodora Tsiligianni, presented the objectives, the methodology and the working group of the project. Then Dr. Christina Ligda, Research Director of the Veterinary Research Institute (IKE ELGO-DIMITRA) presented on the subject of preservation and controls of frozen bovine semen. This was followed by the presentation of Dr. Katerinas Saratsi, mandated researcher of the ELGO-DIMITRA Veterinary Research Institute with the aim of discussing the prospects of the implementation of the STAR(T) BEEF project in the field of fattening calves and the meat market. Finally, there was a discussion about the perspectives of the implementation of the STAR(T) BEEF project in the field of fattening calves and the meat market, moderated by Dr. Vicky Krystallidou, Director of the HUB of the American School of Agriculture with participants of the project partners Stelios Politikos, Producer of fattened calves and Athanasios Diamela, Butcher – Meat Technician. During the discussion, the attendees of the conference participated, such as breeders of the Greek Red Breed and many other stakeholders of the primary sector.
The project is implemented by the Veterinary Research Institute of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization Dimitras in collaboration with the HUB department of the American School of Agriculture, the Agricultural Cooperative Farms of Central Macedonia (Kivotos), the company Diamela A. Athanasios and the company AFOI Politikos O.E.
The STAR(T) BEEF project with project code Μ16ΣΥΝ2-00085 and business plan title “Strategies for the production of calves suitable for fattening in dairy farms, using assisted reproduction technologies” is implemented in the context of Action 2 of Sub-Measures 16.1 – 16.2 ” Establishment and operation of Operational Groups of the European Innovation Partnership for agricultural productivity and sustainability” of the Rural Development Program (RDP) 2014 – 2020.
